This year, our Humanities department spent time to develop a score and sequence that aligned all of our classes. We spoke about how to scaffold writing so that students were prepared for CAASPP testing, college, career, and even AP classes their senior year. We broke each content area down into levels so that each grade would know how much they were trying to cover, and each teacher left with a sense of where the students should start and finish by the end of the year. It was very helpful.
However, I totally think that a Brick would have helped make this process so much easier. We could have shown simply what programs are helping us progress, and how we want to transition and use different programs in the future. Instead of focusing on just one year, teachers would be able to see where the school wants to head in the future. With that knowledge, we would be able to build some of the skills necessary to make future transitions easier. This would be great for teachers and students.
