At our small charter school, there really are not that many programs that are in place, when compared to larger schools and districts. With that said, there are still applications that seem to be redundant, and might be working against themselves.
We are bringing in the Illuminate system, which will house our student assessment and grade data. However, we already have Powerschool, which houses that information currently. When I asked about why we would need the new system, the feedback that I got was to the effect of, “the data looks a lot prettier in Illuminate”.
There are a lot of great things that the Illuminate system does for teachers, including linking assignments to content standards, and helping build growth mindset into the classroom with prescribed lessons for students in areas of need. That seems like a good enough reason to use the program, and there should be no need to have student data housed in two different locations, making a lot more work for our IT, and not much more functionality.
